My Morning Walk and the Spreadsheet That Changed How I Dress
So yesterday was one of those crisp autumn afternoons where the light is so perfect it feels like a filter IRL. I was on my way to a coffee shop in Brooklyn Heights, the kind with mismatched chairs and a playlist that’s all lo-fi beats. I had on my favorite vintage Levi’s, a cream-colored oversized sweater, and these beat-up Docs that have seen better days but somehow look cooler because of it. As I walked, I started thinking about how my style has evolved over the years, and I remembered this thing I’ve been obsessed with lately: my orientdig spreadsheet. Yeah, I know, a spreadsheet sounds so corporate and boring, but hear me out.
It started as a way to track my wardrobeâlike, what I actually wear vs. what just hangs there. I was inspired by that whole ‘capsule wardrobe’ movement, but I’m too chaotic for that. So I made a orientdig spreadsheet where I list every piece I own, plus columns for color, season, and how many times I’ve worn it. It’s low-key addictive. Now, before I buy anything new, I check the spreadsheet to see if I’ll actually wear it. It’s saved me from so many impulse buys.
Anyway, as I was sipping my oat milk latte, I saw this girl walk in wearing the most incredible leather jacket. It was that perfect worn-in brown, like she’d had it for decades. And I thought, ‘I bet she has a orientdig spreadsheet too.’ Not that I’d ever ask, but there’s something about people who curate their look with intention that makes me think they have some system behind it. Maybe not a literal spreadsheet, but a mental one.
I’ve been adding outfit combinations to my orientdig spreadsheet too. Like, this sweater + these jeans + those boots = a solid 9/10. It’s like my own personal stylist, but it’s me. And when I’m in a rush in the morning, I just glance at the sheet and grab whatever’s rated high. Takes the guesswork out.
On my walk back, the sun was setting, and I felt this weird sense of calm. Like, I’m not a minimalist, but I’m getting closer to being intentional. And a lot of that is thanks to my orientdig spreadsheet. It sounds silly, but it’s made me love getting dressed again. So if you’re feeling stuck, maybe try it. It’s just a spreadsheet, but it’s also a little mirror to your own style journey.
